Reasons NOT to buy fabric online!

There are many reasons not to buy your fabric over the internet, but through years of experience, we have discovered that there are a few recurring scenarios that we would not want you to get caught in.

Consumers of any kind look for better deals online, and the same is true of fabric. We acknowledge that you will certainly find the same patterns online that we offer in our showroom and often, at a lower price point. But like most things, it is usually too good to be true.

First of all, the hand of a fabric is often what makes it so desirable, or in some cases undesirable. What looks soft and plush on a computer monitor might actually be rough. What appears to hang well in a photograph will not necessarily hang well as a finished drapery treatment. It is extremely important to feel the fabric prior to making a purchase. After all, this is a big investment in your home.

Second of all, different computer monitors have different resolutions and therefore the colour of a fabric can be skewed. Something on your screen might look red, but in reality it is orange. The bottom line is that a photograph is never as good as the real deal.

Lastly, when you purchase fabric online you have to prepay for the fabric. It might seem like a great deal at the time, but there are always extra costs incurred upon delivery that make the product more expensive than purchasing it at the showroom. This occurs because the great online deals are usually coming from other countries. You will often pay freight charges, HST, a brokerage fee and a fabric import fee. At that point there is nothing you can do because you have already paid for the product to be delivered.
